OUR CLASSES
Pukekawa School currently has four classes — two in the Junior School and two in the Senior School — each proudly named after native New Zealand birds.
HOUSE GROUPS
We have four house groups that all students are part of.
The purpose of these house groups is to promote teamwork, leadership, and a strong sense of belonging.
House leaders are responsible for motivating and encouraging their members to take part in school activities and events.
House points are awarded for participation in events, as well as for receiving RICHER awards or GREENIE awards which are presented at weekly assemblies.
These points are tallied throughout the year, and the house with the highest total is awarded the Whaanau House Shield — kindly donated by our former principal, Karen McCulloch.
THE PTA
A Parent Teacher Association (PTA) runs fundraising initiatives throughout the year to support students with experiences they may not otherwise have access to — or that would otherwise come at a cost to families.
A PTA also plays an active role in helping out at school events across the year.
Beyond fundraising, a PTA aims to be a welcoming and social hub for our school community, offering a great opportunity for new families to connect with other parents and caregivers.
We are always on the lookout for parents, caregivers, and whānau who are keen to contribute to the success of our school.
PTA members are a true asset — their support, organisation, and involvement help school events run smoothly and create positive experiences for our students.
A motivated PTA makes a real difference in building a strong and connected school community.
CALF CLUB
Calf Club is a much-loved tradition at Pukekawa School, celebrating our rural roots and giving students the chance to develop responsibility, confidence, and hands-on learning.
Each year, students raise and care for a calf, lamb, goat, or chicken in the lead-up to the event.
On the day, animals are judged on categories such as leading, calling, and rearing — recognising the bond between child and animal and the care they've put in.
For those without animals, there’s plenty of opportunity to take part through indoor exhibits like baking, flower arranging, craftwork, and vegetable creations — making it a truly inclusive event for all.
Calf Club is a highlight of our school calendar, proudly supported by our local community and a wonderful way to bring everyone together in celebration of our rural lifestyle.
