Our Classes ... Tui (Years 3 and 4)

Welcome to the Tui class page!

We are a combined Year 3 and 4 class and our teacher is Mrs Jaydene Cargill.

We work hard and have fun!  We love to do science experiments!!

Term Three:

Another action packed term!  We have 4 weeks of hockey lessons and 8 weeks of athletics sessions called Get Set Go where we work on running, jumping, throwing and balancing.  We finish up our topic looking at invertebrates and move onto our final topic of the year – Journey to the Center of the Earth!  We will be learning as much as we can about the earth between us and the core.  We are working on calf club art using bottle tops and rocks (with a motivation from Aboriginal art).  We made two booklets – we all did one about Mexico, and then we chose our own country to make a booklet about.  The whole school also celebrated other cultures with a cultural parade and food from other countries.  We’ve been working hard in our enviro area – a group has been working on planning our class mosaic and the others have been planting seeds for our bee/butterfly garden.

Please bring:

  • spelling notebook EVERYDAY
  • book bag EVERYDAY
  • library books MONDAY
  • homework on DUE DATE
  • smile EVERYDAY

Term Two:

We continue our enviro focus looking at invertebrates.  This term we focus more on insects and plan to create a butterfly garden and look at ways to encourage good insects to our school gardens.  Later in the term our topic changes to exploring different cultures.  We have a soccer tournament coming up, ice skating, sharing our learning and whanau rotations towards the end of the term.

In week 5 we are sharing our speeches within our class.  Some students will be chosen to share these with the school and/or present their speech on our school speech evening.

Term One:

We started off the term by learning about beach safety, including a trip to Sunset Beach at Port Waikato.  Our topic then changed to an enviro focus where we have been learning about Invertebrates.  We had a trip to the Auckland Botanic Gardens where we went hunting in the leaf litter to find some invertebrates and try and identify them.

Our class enviro focus is Invertebrates.  We are known as the ‘Entomologists’.  We will continue to learn about Invertebrates and use our knowledge to encourage good bugs to our school garden.
