An annual tradition for rural families and schools throughout New Zealand, calf club is an integral part of the Pukekawa School annual calendar. Calf Club Day takes place on the Friday of the first week of Term 4.
In 2017 Calf Club Day will be Friday 20 October.
Calf Club Day encourages our children to rear a farm animal and learn the basics of animal care. Children can choose to raise a calf, lamb, goat or chickens.
Children who choose not to raise an animal complete an indoor project. Past indoor projects have included scarecrows and weaving.
In the lead up to Calf Club Day, all children complete art projects and flower arrangements in the classroom.
Calf Club Day is a fun day out for our school families and is a major fundraiser for the school with the PTA selling food and the Calf Club committee organising auctions and raffles. In addition to the animal and art judging there is a Fathers’ Cake competition.
